Siberian Cat Breed Information

The Siberian cat is a medium -sized and medium -length furry cat. This breed has become a crowd pleaser because of its appearance, temperament and also it is one of the hypoallergenic cats. In a nutshell, this cat is a jungle cat native to Russia a snowy country. Due to the heavy snow this cat needs a thick fur coat of 3 layers to protect itself from the cold temperatures. As for the physical, it has a strong and muscular body and has large bones. All this is for it’s own survival in a cold environment.

The Siberian cat is a type of feral cat that has lived so long in Russia that it has become a popular domestic cat. Because many have kept them as pets, the breed became a certified breed as a domestic cat for the rest of the world in the 1980s. The actual title of this breed is Siberian Forest Cat, but in general it is called Siberian cat.

In addition, this breed was first mentioned in a book entitled ” Our Cats and All About Them” by Harrison Wier. The book has also included information about the earliest cat show in England in 1871. The first Siberian cat found in the United States was in 1990. It was discovered after the Cold War ended that year.



The appearance of this breed is very eye catching every day. It has a sweet face with a short nasal snout. The eyes are medium sized and come in a variety of colors from green, golden yellow, gold-green, or blue if it had white fur coat. Some also have two colors on both sides of the eyes but this is actually a disease called heterochromia.

In hot weather, Siberian cats will shed the outer layer on the fur coat to make it shorter and thinner. This is to cool his body while in winter the fur coat will thicken and become longer than normal. Despite getting thicker, this situation will be a big problem for the owners! You need to brush the hair every day so that it does not curl or mat. Bathe your cat once in a while so that the hair that falls out of the fur coat and use a special shampoo for cats to make it easier for you to remove dust and dandruff from the fur coat.

Although this Siberian cat is one of those cats that likes to keep quiet, it likes to make noise through meowing, and chirping. You don’t have to worry if you have other pets because they love to socialize. This means that they like to play with cats or dogs well and if you have a small child, you can see that they will play with your children gently.  More than that, they likes extreme sports from climbing, exploring, and swimming. To keep your cat physically and mentally active, expose him to a variety of fun toys and games.

Health Treatment

You need to check his ears once a week to remove dirt. Wipe the ears with a cotton swab and a mild ear cleaner (wash outside only, do not get into the ear canal). You should see a veterinarian if the ears look red or too dirty on sensitive parts.
